Article on back of photo; "These four young men were buddies through Decatur High School, and all four entered the navy on December 7. They have just completed preliminary training at Great Lakes, and are home on a 9-day leave. They are , left to right, Donald L. Warnick, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Warnick, Boody; Gerald E. Willis, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Willis, 426 South Water street; Kenneth J. Mears, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Mears, 612-1/2 East Wood street, and Frederick Churchman, son of Mrs. Nora M. Churchman, 1253 East Grand avenue. Warnick is to report to carpenters' school, Willis to gunners' school, and Mears and Churchman to armed guards' school at San Diego, Calif."
